for KhAD Boss

at His HQ Office

The last head of KhAD, Ghulam Faruq Yaqubi. The photo was taken in his office in 1992 at KhAD HQ in a rare interview with a journalist (Richard Mackenzie).

It would be Yaqubi’s  final interview before he committed suicide in the same office when Communism collapsed and Kabul fell to the mujahideen a week or two later.

The writing was on the wall at the time and the journalist could never quite understand why Yaqubi seemed to be in such a good mood in looming disaster for him and his troops.
