Ahmad Shah  Massoud Forces

Capture Kabul in 1992...

In April, 1992, Kabul was in chaos after the collapse of the Communist regime headed by President Najib. Attacks on the city were already underway by the forces of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. Hekmatyar’s strongest opponent, Resistance leader Ahmad Shah Massoud, gathered his forces at Bagram and drove in a massive convoy into the city, taking all the key installations -- from the Ministry of Defense to the main television station. Richard Mackenzie and longtime

friend & colleague Peter Jouvenal rode with Massoud into the

city. Mackenzie was interviewed by the Associated Press after

their arrival in Kabul.
